Promoting Journalism: Bureau wins award and is shortlisted for an Amnesty Media Award
The Bureau has won the UACES Thomson Reuters Reporting Europe Prize for its report Europe’s Missing Millions, for the BBC’s Radio 4 File on Four prgramme.
The award recognises work which stimulates critical debate on European integration in English speaking media.
In presenting the award the judges praised the ‘in-depth research which made the programme’s revelations credible, and the outstanding skill and professionalism with which it laid bare stories of deception and abuse in Sicily and elsewhere.’
Previous winners include the Economist, the International Herald Tribune and BBC Radio 4.
The investigation by chief reporter Angus Stickler, was part of a wider expose of the waste and mismanagement of European Union Structural Funds, published in the Financial Times and broadcast by Al Jazeera.
The Bureau’s journalism has also been recognised by Amnesty. The Bureau’s web project, iraqwarlogs.com based around the Wikileaks Iraq files has been shortlisted for this year’s Amnesty Media Awards.
The winners will be announced in a ceremony at the BFI in central London on Tuesday 24 May.
